RAISED VOICES

A debate is underway as to how to say "Black Lives Matter" in American Sign Language.

"Matter" may be signed as "important" or as "cherish". The difference in meaning, context, and emotion is immediately clear. Also clear is the awakening, education, and ally-ship happening in this country and around the world.

While our mission at Griot Theatre focuses on women, people of color, and those with physical disabilities; the voices of Black artists have been and will continue to be cherished in everything that we do.
NEW VOICES

We adapt.

Griot Theatre will lean in to both the limitations and opportunities presented by our new world. We devote this time away from the stage to exploring the text and celebrating the actor.

We are expanding our New Voices Festival, by developing a series of virtual readings of work by artists from underrepresented groups, and re-imagining classical work.

We're providing a glimpse into the actor's process, through short performances and interviews with Masterclass: the Actor Alone.

WHAT IS GRIOT THEATRE?

Griot Theatre exists to give voice to untold stories, by creating a forum for women, people of color, and artists with physical disabilities to interpret theatre in new ways.

Griot Theatre In Residence
at the Getty Villa

Griot Theatre participated in The Getty Villa's Theatre Lab

Philoctetes by Sophocles, the work would become The Archer from Malis -
and go on to a full production in Hollywood.
